• End-to-end encryption: a way to secure the transfer of digital information between systems or devices, which prevents a third party from accessing the data. Digital information is encrypted at the source and can only be decrypted by the intended recipient. End-to-end encryption is sometimes referred to as E2EE.
  • Human factors: concerns fitting technology, tasks and environments to the needs of the people who have to use them. It uses user-centred- design and psychology to understand human interaction and behaviours to support inclusive and accessible design.
  • Privacy enhancing technologies: technologies which protect users by minimising personal data use, maximising data security and empowering individuals.
  • Privacy preserving technologies: technologies which preserve the anonymity of their users.
  • PriPA: a browser extension for linguistic analysis developed on the Coronavirus Discourses project at the University of Nottingham.
  • PIPO: a new tool (based on PriPA) being developed on this project for the privacy-preserving detection and flagging of online misinformation.
